Year Rounder

The cold dreary days of December are the toughest for me as a cyclist.  I miss being on my bike but most of all I miss the calmness that overtakes my body when I'm on my bike.  The winter is no time to be sitting around and watching football waiting for the warm days to return, I need to train and get my body ready for the upcoming season.  My workouts this winter start at 5am each weekday with an hour spin class, at spin class I'm on the bike and working on my technique.  On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays I head back to the gym at 9am and do workouts with weights and work on my flexibility.  I this workout schedule last week and my body feels amazing, however if my body starts to get tired I will tweak my schedule or take a week off.  The last thing I want is to be tired when my season starts.

My cycling season will start in January.  My goal for this season is to ride a century in every month of the year, the best part is that I'm not the only cyclist that will be doing so.  A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon this website, I will be joining the Personal Century Division.  In the personal century division I must complete rides
of 90 - 149 miles. For credit, I must complete at least 90 miles in an 11-hour period including off the bike time (and maintain an 8.33 mph average after that).  It sounds easy enough but riding one hundred miles in January, February, November and December is anything but easy.  The other eight months will not be easy as well, I will have to dedicate one full day each month to riding one hundred miles.  Life comes first, and the bike comes second, I will do my best to find time to complete this task but life is a fickle thing.  I don't know where I will be nine months from now, my schedule may change work wise and life can throw almost anything at me.

I feel that I can and will complete the year rounder challenge, my blood sugars have been great while I have been on the bike.  For two years I have worked tirelessly to perfect my blood sugar before, during and after my rides.  I now have the confidence to ride one hundred miles by myself.  I will be sure to keep everyone up to date as the year goes on and look forward to celebrating my accomplishment this time next
