To me having competition in anything that you do makes you work that much harder. When it comes to my diabetes I always aim to have a blood sugar that is in my set range, my goal is to go two weeks without seeing a blood sugar above my set range. If I did not have that goal I would not care about my blood sugar as much as I do. If I had no goals when it comes to my diabetes a blood sugar above my set range wouldn't phase me. I never want that in my life, as long as my heart is beating I want to be angry when my blood sugar is above or below my set range.
As time passes and you start to achieve your goals it is amazing what that does for your self confidence. I feel that I can compete with anyone when it comes to the bike, running, or diabetes. I know that I'm not the best, I know that I can be beat but I want that challenge. A personal goal is better than any medal or trophy I could ever receive. At the end of the day I know that I reached a goal that I never thought I could reach. I believe if we all start small and reach our personal goals that we will all be happier and driven like never before to make and obtain new goals.
