I honestly don't know what to do now that I can't workout for a week. It is like being addicted to a drug, I'm lost without having to workout after work. I also can't believe how much i have missed because of working out. For two months all I cared about was the marathon and my diabetes. Honestly almost everything else took a back seat, I owe many apologies to friends and family. For two months it was nothing but train and run, no golfing with buddies from work, no going out with friends, and saying no to some family events that I should've gone to. With that said I can't wait to run another marathon, however the training will be different. I know what to expect and know what I need to work on. I may have put to much pressure on myself to run well at the marathon. The next marathon I will make sure to balance everything in my life and not get to stressed out. It is almost like starting a new job, we want to succeed so badly that we forget about the other activities in our life.
The days after a marathon have been interesting. It is amazing how great it feels to be able to walk normally again. I got that feeling at 3am today when I woke to use the bathroom. I got out of bed very slowly afraid of the pain, as my feet hit the floor I smiled because it didn't hurt. I even did a quick little sprint back to bed because I felt no pain. Yes, I laid in bed for a minute smiling before falling back to sleep.
When it comes to my diet I have been telling people that I'm on a bye this week. I've eaten a cheeseburger, a brownie, and McDonalds since running the marathon, other than those foods the diet has been normal. The tough part has been the amount of insulin to take to cover my meals. My body is still recovering and not back to normal, this has affected my blood sugars and insulin rates quite a bit. Taking insulin for a burger, brownie, and McDonalds is new for me, I honestly was guessing. With guessing comes a few lows and a high blood sugar. My bye week is now over only three days in, I'm back on the diabetes correct care train. My diet will return to normal tomorrow, I started a new CGM this evening and will be back to working out on Saturday....hopefully.
