That brings me to my second worry. This worry is my blood sugar, although I have been doing amazing this year with my blood sugar while racing I always worry just a little bit. It is almost like getting on a plane, many of us have flown hundreds of times and the plane has never crashed. Whenever we get on a plane we always worry a little bit, at least I do. It might never happen but we have to be prepared and have to watch the flight attendants instructions pre flight just in case of a crash. Thats my blood sugar while I'm getting ready to race. It may be perfect but things happen and it might fall below my set range or soar above my set range. If that happens does that mean I won't race, no but I know that if I want to be at my best that i need to be within my set range.
That is where running the route before the race comes in very very handy. If I can run 3.1 miles as a warmup that not only warms up my body but my blood sugar as well. I'm running the warmup almost two minutes per mile slower than I will run in the race but my body is still working and affecting my blood sugar. After my warmup I can test, take insulin or get juice and food if my blood sugar is below or above my set range. If it is right in range I may have a little Gatorade and a bite of a Power Bar. I'm looking forward to the race and looking forward to a great day all around when it comes to my blood sugar!!
