I need to start running more often to get my mile times back to where they should be but that is not the top priority right now. The top priority is my blood sugar, as I expected I didn't have the best blood sugars while on a five mile run late this afternoon. With a blood sugar of 231 at 3:30pm just before I left the house I had a lot of confidence. I figured I had set my temp basal an hour earlier and I would be perfect blood sugar wise while running. The truth is I felt great for the entire run, I felt that my blood sugar was perfect. I had no signs of high or low blood sugar. My legs were good, I was happy, and my mouth and nose were never dry. So you would imagine my shock when I tested my blood sugar post run and was at 64!!!
Obviously I have a lot of work to do, my body isn't use to running. Five miles may have been to many but I had to start somewhere. As my body adjusts to the workouts managing my blood sugar will be a little easier. As always I will have supplies with me to fix a low blood sugar if one creeps up while running. I should have eaten more while running today, I believe that would have prevented the low. Im happy to be running and I'm excited for the challenge ahead as I get back to where I was before I was sick.
