Tour De Cure

As usual the Ocean State Tour De Cure was amazing, from the weather to the people and everything in between.  I know that the Tour is not a race but I'm very happy that Rose beat me to the finish this year.  Having Rose and her family along with my wife's family at the finish meant so much.  I made sure that I rode the extra one hundred yards over to the bike rack so I could wipe away a few tears before seeing everyone.  It made me so happy to spend time with Rose and her family, I can't describe it but it made my day.  Matt the tour director did a great job as always, the route was marked perfectly, the rest stops were manned by amazing people and the party after the tour was great.  As I have said before I'll put the Ocean State tour against any tour in the country.

Diabetes wise my day was amazing, my pump didn't beep from 530am until 530pm, being able to do that on a normal day is tough enough but to do it when I rode over 100 miles is crazy.  However I did have a very scarey ten miles while riding, from mile forty to mile fifty I couldn't move my upper body and had trouble breathing.  My heart rate wouldn't go above 110 for these ten miles, I tried standing and pushing a little harder but my body wanted no part of it.  My blood sugar was fine, I had eaten and was hydrated.  At mile fifty I stopped at the rest stop and contemplated  stopping, I was out of it and didn't want to risk getting hurt.  I used the rest room (went number 1 for those who are wondering)  and got back on the bike, a few miles later everything came back.  I don't know what happened but to be honest I'm scared.  I feel fine now but I don't know what would cause my body to act like that, I will definitely keep an eye on things and be careful while at work tomorrow.

Cycling: the only sport where the color of urine is acceptable dinner conversation.
