Tough Mudder training

Another day, another day to beat the crap out of my body, I’m beginning to think that I enjoy the pain after workouts.  Today’s workout would be a lot different than anything I had done before but I’m beginning to get that teenage I can do anything feeling when it comes to workouts.  Midlife crisis at 29 maybe but I won’t get into that.  Before leaving for my workout that was scheduled for noon I dialed back the amount of insulin that I received from my pump.  I tested around 11am and was at 146, I dialed the amount of insulin going in to 64% of the usual and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  When I arrived to the workout location at noon my pump said that I was at 184, perfect diabetes wise I’m good to go.

The gym that I go to has been amazing, the employees are like family and I’ve learned a whole lot about my body and how to train.  I also believe I like them because they’re all a little nuts.  My trainer Mike is the one behind the Tough Mudder training and man does he know how to pick a good workout.  We headed off to Lantern Hill just on the outskirts of Foxwoods Casino.  The hill is a 500ft climb with some very step sections and whole bunch of rocky trails.  The workout that was planned was to go up and down the hill two times and then do somebody weight workouts.  What happened was that I went up and down four times, one time I carried a rock for the last and steepest 200ft, and then did planks, pushups, squats and lunges at the top of the hill.  Other than having legs that felt like anvils the workout was amazing.  It beat the crap out of my body, as my father always says after I work out “My ass was sucking pond water” The whole group was physically drained, when we were finished we were all interviewed by the New London Day a local newspaper for southeastern Connecticut.  As you will see in the video I was not all there.  I’m happy that the diabetes part of my interview made the final cut, hopefully a little more press coverage will come from it and I will be able to encourage other diabetics to do the Mudder with us.  After the workout and interview my blood sugar was at 110!!! I’m getting this exercise and diabetes thing down!! Thank Delaine!!!!
