For those that don't know tomorrow is World Diabetes Day. World Diabetes Day was first introduced in 1991 to increase awareness about diabetes. People all over the world will be raising diabetes awareness and celebrating all of the technological advances that diabetes has seen over the past year. For anyone with diabetes World Diabetes Day is a way to meet other diabetics all over the world, for the second year in a row I will be participating in the World Diabetes Day Postcard Exchange!! The exchange is amazing, last year I received a postcard from a child in Australia, the postcard made my day!!
For me World Diabetes Day is a day to reflect. I will be thinking about how lucky I am to be here, I almost lost my fight with diabetes but was able to fight back and get control of my diabetes. I find it ironic that World Diabetes Day was introduced the year that i was diagnosed, I didn't know about the day until a few years ago when I jumped in to the diabetes community and made a pledge to do all that I can to help others living with diabetes. I say it all the time but it took me almost twenty years for me to accept my disease. I don't want to get in to reasons for life and stuff like that but I believe I was put on this earth to get diabetes, not appreciate it and almost lose my life to it so that I could help others. I feel that it is my job to share my story with others, I may not be the best diabetic in the world but I can show people what not to do. By sharing my story I hope that I can help people accept their diabetes so they don't have to go down the road that I did.
World Diabetes Day is a great day to reflect, it is also a day to look at the future of diabetes. The future looks so bright, with insulin pump technology improving the best is yet to come. The advancements in a closed loop insulin pump are amazing and I can't wait to see what other new technologies are down the diabetes road. IT IS SO GREAT TO BE LIVING WITH DIABET
