Talk to Me

It's time for my techie nerd side to come out, I occasionally go on diabetes related technology rants and tonight is one of those nights.  I like to use the RunKeeper app while I run or ride my bike, it is a great app that tracks, time and distance.  It has audio cues, when you reach a certain distance (usually every mile) it will tell you your pace and your total time.

I have received numerous emails from followers asking me where I put my Dexcom while riding my bike.  Each person is looking for a way to mount the Dexcom to their bike to be able to see their blood sugars while riding.  It shocks me that we have all of these amazing apps for our phones yet we have no way for our CGM to talk to our phone.  Add bluetooth to a CGM that way I see it on my phone or my phone can talk to me and tell me what my blood sugar is every thirty minutes.  While working I have headphones in 90 percent of the work day, I turn on my CGM bluetooth and it could tell me what my blood sugar is.  I would love to be able to run with headphones and hear "Mile 5, 40 minutes, 8 minute pace, your blood sugar is at 204 and holding"  Even on the bike I could act like a pro and have a headphone taped in one ear so I would be able to hear my blood sugar every five miles while on a 100 mile bike ride.

It doesn't seem like it would take to much work for this to happen.  I'm a want to be tech guy, I know a lot but have no clue how to make something like this work.  I'd like to believe that something like this is being developed as I write.  Technology is a great thing, it just needs to be introduced to diabetes.

Oh, they will come out with bluetooth. Then they'll charge an additional $500 on the price. Currently they are doing this with blood pressure machines and honestly I feel it a bit ridiculous.

If you have a lot of people looking for a mount for the Dexcom, I might be able to help. I can 3d design a mount for it and release it under an open source license so anyone can use it. They can take the design to any 3d printer and they'll have the mount.

If this is something that may be of interest please contact me via email. I'd need some measurements from an existing device to design a decent mount.
