This winter it seems to be swimming right now, joining a local YMCA that has a pool is the main reason swimming has caught my eye. I have two problems when it comes to swimming however, the first problem is that I don't know how to swim. The second problem is my diabetes. The first problem is easy to solve, I can swim but not at the level I would like. The more I practice the better I will get....hopefully. The diabetes is the real concern, obviously I can't wear my pump while I swim. Do I take a small dose of insulin before jumping in the pool? Do I set a temp basal hours before getting in the pool or do I just unhook the pump and swim. I'm not to worried about lows while swimming, I will have juice and a bar close to the pool incase my blood sugar does drop while swimming.
I'm a little nervous and obviously have a lot of questions as I get ready to get in the pool for the winter. As always any advice that you can provide would me much appreciated. Stay tuned to hear about my adventures in the pool.
