I have found my first trail race, it will be a 20k held in Middlebury Connecticut. To be perfectly honest with you I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to a trail run, I will be running on pure adrenaline and will be taking on whatever is in front of me. This tactic has worked very well in the past when I was a raw cyclist just going off of emotion. That worked out very well when it came to cycling but will that carry over to trail running?
What i do know is that I can manage my blood sugar very well when I'm racing. Before any kind of race the emotions and adrenaline are the same, I know what that will do to my blood sugar and how to handle it once the race begins. It is the change of pace that has me a little nervous, will I be running for a majority of the race or will I be running for twenty minutes and then climbing for ten. I have yet to find a race map or a topographic map of the area. My OCD has kicked in already and I have been searching the internet like crazy to get reviews of past races.
I have confidence moving forward and I know that will go a long way. My knowledge of my body and my diabetes has gotten me this far. Being able to step back and reflect on all of the racing I have done will calm my nerves before I race next Saturday. I'm excited for the new adventure and anxious to see what the race will bring!!
