It seems like each fall and spring I'm writing about being sick, I have some minor stomach issues which are becoming more prominent as time goes on. Other than my birthday cheese burger I stay away from red meat, I also stay away from dairy using only almond milk. Staying away from dairy was a new development in the fall and so far it has been very helpful. Having one of the best gastroenterologist in New England has helped tremendously, she knows more about my body than anyone should. Being able to call her the other night when I started getting sick was a huge advantage. Also taking Sound Probiotics in my corner has helped as well. When I was meeting with the doctor in November I told her I was taking a daily probiotic, she quickly asked which one I was taking and warned me that many are not doing what they are marketed to do. Once she found out everything she could about Sound Probiotics she said "You found the best probiotic that money can buy, no matter what make sure you are taking it daily." With a great probiotic and a lot of fluids (broth, Gatorade and water) I have become hydrated and am ready to get back to training and racing.
One final note my daily insulin amount has dropped tremendously since starting a new job just over a week ago. One week is not enough time to make drastic changes to my basal rates especially because I have been sick. My daily insulin amounts are right around 25 units per day which is crazy!! I average around 35 on a regular day. Looking ahead I will be making some change to my basal rate due to the fact that I'm on my feet all day and walking anywhere from five to seven miles while working. That is diabetes for you, when you think you have it figured out it changes. As always I'm excited about the new challenge that it is presenting and will make the necessary changes with a smile on my face!!
