Last year I had the honor of speaking at a local middle school. The talks I gave that day really made me enjoy public speaking and sharing my story. The kids were amazing and I was so happy that they got something out of my story. I was even asked to sign a couple of t-shirts!!!
This morning I received an email from the school saying that they would like me to return next Wednesday to speak again!! This email made my day, I couldn't help but smile and be excited. I even got promoted to speaking in the auditorium!! I can't wait to speak one on one with the diabetics that go to the school. I will be learning from them as much as they learn from me. I also can't wait to speak with everyone to raise diabetes awareness but to also let them know that is ok to be yourself. For ten years I hid my diabetes and with that I hid who I really was as a person. I hope that I can encourage everyone that just because they like reading or playing chess that it isn't a bad thing. My hope is that each child learns that if they are themselves that they can be whatever they dream of. That they shouldn't be ashamed of what they love to do, if other children pick on them because of what they love then those people really aren't friends. I can't wait until the 22nd and I can't wait to tell hundreds of kids to believe in their dreams because anything is possible!!
