Snow+Bike=GREATNESS

After being on such a diabetes high for over twenty-four hours I decided to make things a lot tougher today.  I really needed to get on the bike today; I decided around ten that I’d go for a ride and setup my pump for bike mode.  This means cutting the insulin going in to my body down ninety percent and having an early lunch so I could ride a little after 12:30.  My blood sugar didn’t go above 140 until 12:15, that means 40hrs below 140, I’m sure I could have gone 48hrs staying under 140 and set a new record for myself but I needed to ride.  Without my blood sugar around 200 when I start riding I’d be in a lot of trouble diabetes wise about three miles in to my ride.

Winter finally decided to come back to Westerly today.  As a cyclist this usually is not a good thing, in my sick mind I was pumped to ride in the snow and crappy road conditions.  I don’t have the experience I should riding in wet conditions so today was perfect.  My body stayed warm for a majority of the ride but the final few miles were not fun, also my face started to feel like Tom Coughlins when the Giants played the Packers. (Picture below to explain)  Diabetes wise everything went great on the bike, I ate and drank when I needed to and my blood sugar stayed right around 100 for the hour ride.  Bike wise the ride went great as well, I took a few turns around 22mph and stayed upright.  All in all it was a good ride.

The real fun started post ride, my body feels great but the cycling takes its toll.  For about two hours after I feel low because I’m dehydrated.  I’ve tried everything to hydrate and it doesn’t seem to work, I lose a lot of fluids when riding.  I will be working on that a lot in the coming weeks.  Post ride I put the pump back to its normal settings took 6 units and went on with my day.  I feel great now and I’m looking forward to tomorrow and a day off and a great dinner!!! (Tomorrows post will be about dinner and should be emotional)

Blood Sugar Average-111
Units of Insulin-40.45
