A few days ago I met a fellow type 1 diabetic, I went to high school with her husband but her and I had never officially met.  Of all places we met in an ice cream shop, it's weird neither one of us melted when we walked in or had ice cream.  As our conversation went on I learned that she treats her low blood sugars with Smarties.  I was informed that Smarties work very quickly, and that she will often use them while running.

The next day I looked online to see why Smarties are so good at fixing a low blood sugar.  I found this blog which helped a little, and then I read this blog post.  After speaking with someone who loves Smarties and reading a couple of blogs I was sold on the Smarties low blood sugar fix.  I bought two one pound bags and have been using Smarties to fix minor (below 75) low blood sugars all week.  Smarties have been working amazingly all week long.  One or two sleeves of smarties will give me that little boost that I need to be able to finish the work I'm doing before break or lunch.  They have worked so well that I was able to stay out until 10am before I took my break, usually I'm in need of my break at 9am or I will be in the 50s.

I encourage peolpe to try Smarties, they are great!!  I also encourage everyone to try and find a fellow diabetic.  It can be in person or online, but take a good ten to fifteen minutes and get to know what they do for various diabetes situations.  I'm happy that I asked what this person used for minor lows while running, if I didn't ask I would have never known how great a "candy" (Smarties and glucose tabs have the same ingredients)  fixes a low blood sugar!!
