Sickness Help

The past twenty four hours have been very interesting, from being freezing cold to high blood sugars I have seen it all.  Over the weekend "Sharky" was sick, more than a few times Leanne and I looked at one another and said "We're next"  As of Monday morning I feeling great, I was my normal high energy self.  As the day went on however I was feeling worse and worse.  I was extremely cold as we sat down for dinner and could eat very little.  My stomach was feeling ok but my body felt like I had just biked 200 miles in the Rocky Mountains.

Knowing that i had not eaten anything and with my blood sugars being right around 100 I set a temp basal so that i would avoid a severe low while being sick.  The last thing that i want while I'm sick is to be low, when I'm sick I puke, that means any food I eat comes right back up so my blood sugar will have a tough time going back up if that is the case.  After setting my temp basal I was off to the store because I foolishly put off doing the weekly shopping on Sunday, now I was freezing cold and saying "Sometimes you just do things".  I would suck it up and get the shopping done but I would have two ten minute sit down in the bathroom sessions because I thought I was going to be sick.

As I arrived home I crashed, I tested my blood sugar and was happy to see 222.  No ketones and a respectable sick blood sugar allowed me to go to bed with no problems.  I would awake at 11pm and puke for the first and last time of this sickness...hopefully.  My blood sugar was now close to 300, no ketones but insulin was needed to lower my blood sugar just a bit.  I would finally fall back asleep around 1am.  At 630am I wasn't great but other than "Sharky" we were all going to be home sick.  A nice three hour nap after breakfast cured or so I hope it cured my sickness.  I have been able to eat toast and soup.  My blood sugars are now back to normal and I'm feeling ok for someone that was just sick.

This next paragraph is all truth and written by me, I'm not getting paid to write this or writing this in hopes of having a sponsor.  I started taking Sound Probiotics again about a month ago, I had taken a break because I never get sick in the summer.  With the kids in school and winter coming I figured it would be the perfect time to get back on Sound Probiotics.  I started taking probiotics late last spring so this is the first winter test for Sound Probiotics.  So far it has been great, yes I got a little sick last night but I'm better in twenty four hours, last winter the same kind of sickness had me down and out for almost 72 hours.  I will take tomorrow off from the gym but will be running on Thursday morning and racing on Friday morning if the rest of the family is better and I can be away for a few hours.  I wasn't sure about using probiotics before but after a brief battle with a sickness I'm sold!!  With big races planned for the Spring I can't afford to lose time to sickness.  I will also be back to 100% for Thanksgiving which is huge because I have a lot to be thankful for!!
