I learned how to ride a road bike on my favorite 30 mile route. A route that had a mix of the ocean and the woods. It is a very appealing ride for any nature lover, I often forgot I was cycling and would be on my bike smiling as I cruised at a comfortable twenty miles per hour before hitting the hills.
Sunday it all changes, my bike will stay at home and I will be running my favorite route. 16 miles of amazing road!! Running from Groton to my parents, yes the route is the route is extremely flat but this is a big step as I prepare for my first 50k.
The most important part of the run is obviously my diabetes. Figuring out food and when to hydrate is the name of the game. Keeping my blood sugar in range is also very important as it is everyday of my life. Knowing my long acting insulin amount is important to much and I'm below range, not enough and I'm above my set range. Yes it is on my mind but I'm. It worried, I've done this for almost ten years, if I can't be in range something is wrong. It's almost like tying your shoes, you do it everyday and know it inside and out. Sometimes however you get a knot, it happens. If I get out of range I'll be ok and know what to do. I just need to focus on doing my job!!
