At lunch the fun started, when I tested I was at 323, I decided to take four units and have my normal lunch. I figured the high was from the new drink and being nervous because I was working with a couple of the bosses. After lunch I really started to feel (blood sugar) high,I was tired, angry, and very thirsty. My CGM read 240 so I decided to take another two units and then set my temp basal because I wanted to ride my bike after work. An hour later no change, my pump read 286, I decided that should go test just to make sure, I was at 413!!! I knew what the problem was but didn't want to accept it, my pump site was clogged or bent so no insulin was getting in to my body. I went back down and my boss asked me if everything was ok, I quickly walked away saying and that I had to go fix one of the sprinklers that had broke. The one good thing was that my boss followed me, I was asked "What were you?" When I said 413 he said get out of here and go get that fixed, I explained the problem and was consoled. I then explained that I messed up, I should have an extra site in this moment and I should also have a humalog pen and needle up at the barn just in case, I did not and had to leave work an hour early to fix my blood sugar problem. Luckily my work day was all but over but spending that last hour doing minor jobs with the guys I want to be one day would've been nice.
Again this was a rookie mistake and one that should have never happened. I'm over prepared for lows at work but obviously was not prepared for a high blood sugar. That will change when I take a couple pens and pump sites with me to work tomorrow. The bike ride never happened this afternoon, taking twelve units to fix a high blood sugar and riding a bike would have been very bad!! The best part of this mistake is that tomorrow is a new day and I can forget all about today!!
