Racing Season is Here

After another cold and snowy winter racing season is here again. Although there is still snow on the ground the days are getting longer and a little bit warmer. Slowly people like myself will be moving their workouts from the treadmill and the indoor bike trainer to the roads. Many have been outside in the frigid temperatures and snow training all winter, that will prove valuable as early season races start up this weekend.

As tough as the transition from inside workouts to outside workouts has been, for the diabetes athlete the transition is a little more challenging. Workouts become longer and in the beginning of the season my basal rates are a little higher than the middle of summer. That presents the challenge, knowing when to set my temp basal is key. The good news is that I will have my CGM back for my race this Saturday, that goes a long way a few hours before the race. Seeing the trend of my blood sugar gives me a great idea of where I will be at later in the day.

Another season is here and I can't wait to be back on the road cycling and running. As always the future is a mystery but I'm confident in my diabetes management and in my fitness that this season could be the best yet!!
