This afternoon I decided to try and go for a short five mile run to see how my knee would hold up. A mile in the pain returned, I was able to finish my run but again I had a dull to at times a sharp pain while running. When i returned home this evening I iced the knee again but had some noticeable swelling in the knee. Luckily I have quite the team of track and field coaches that know a lot about running and running injuries. The diagnosis is that the knee is over worked and probably nothing more than "runners knee". I recently increased my mileage and the consensus is that the is the cause of the pain.
The toughest part of this week long trip top the disabled list is the diabetes side of working out. Since April the amount of insulin I take for the day has been way down due to all of the cardio workouts that I have done. The week ahead will bring some ab workouts and hamstring work. The length of these workouts will be significantly shorter and in turn could cause some changes in my blood sugars. As always I will be keeping a close eye on everything and don't see this week "off" as much of a challenge.
