The 27th of May was like my birthday. I was so excited to call Medtronic and upgrade my pump. Of course I was worried about the cost and any other secret hidden costs. I thought Medtronic would do all that it could to make money. After giving my information to the representative on the phone I was asked some very basic questions about my diabetes care. Number of lows in a day, number of times I test my blood sugar and so on. The represenative then told me that everything looked good and that I would receive a call from a local Medtronic representative to finalize my new pump.
My local representative and I played phone tag for a few days. This afternoon I was able to contact my representative and finalize my new insulin pump. I had to email him my blood sugar readings for the past month but other than that it was a very short call. I was informed that the only cost would be the amount that the insurance does not cover.
For anyone using Medtronic it is well worth the time to see if your pump is available for an upgrade. Personally I'm very happy to upgrade my insulin pump, diabetes technology is moving so quickly that I don't want to miss the next big thing. Information on upgrading your Medtronic insulin pump can be found here.
