With the I can work to get what I want I emailed an individual that works for Tandem Diabetes Care. Back in September when I spoke at the TCOYD event in Worcester I was introduced to the t:slim Insulin Pump by this individual. He saw my insulin pump and said you look like a smart guy try out this demo pump and see how it works for you. I instantly started using the touch screen to find how to set a temp basal, give myself insulin and how to suspend the pump. I also found how to setup my basal rates and carb ratios, everything was very simple and easy with a touch screen. Five minutes later he came over and asked what I thought, I was looking for anything, I love Medtronic and didn't want to realize that this pump was a little better. I told him that I often use the easy bolus feature on my Medtronic device, he then pushed one button on the t:slim and boom I had my easy bolus setup. From that point on I was sold on t:slim, but again I had just gotten a new pump.
Now I'm upset with Medtronic and have made that first step to switching from Medtronic to Tandem diabetes care and a Dexcom CGM. Again I don't know if this change is possible but I will be exploring every option. I'm excited about possibly making the change but again I have had five amazing years with Medtronic and will miss them if I'm able to switch. At the end of the day it comes down to the patient and what works best, I believe I'm taking small steps to getting the best pump and CGM.
