Perfect Day For a 5k

A perfect late August day is the perfect time for a 5k, you still have the warm air but no humidity, perfect weather for any race.  A day of perfect blood sugars had me believing I could run a great race if I could handle pushing an extra 50lbs for 3.1 miles.  All of my worries on Monday night were for not, the best kids ever had a great dinner and were beyond excited to race with daddy.  From checking in to stretching they enjoyed each and every second of the pre race ritual.  My soft side came out as I was stretching with a good friend that kept me relaxed and the kids entertained.  As I stretched I looked in the stroller and both "Minnie" and "Sharky" were copying my every move.

As I headed to the back of the starting group "Sharky" was as impatient as I and kept yelling go until the gun sounded.  Then the fun started, my goal was to talk and have fun with the kids while racing.  Not worried about time but rather enjoying each step and being with two amazing children.  With a very scenic course it was great to hear them both yell "boat" as we headed down a small hill towards the ocean!!  It was the little stuff that made the race so great.  Post race watching the kids run and have fun put an end to a very successful first race with them.  It won't always go so smoothly but I'm happy to know that they enjoyed the night and had fun watching me run.

As far as blood sugars and the race, everything was perfect!!  My blood sugar started just above my set range but was in range post race and the rest of the evening which is always great!!  Race wise I couldn't have asked for a better time.  My goal was to be around 27 minutes, enjoying being with the kids kept me relaxed and not worried about my time or any of my usual race jitters.  Finishing in just over 25 minutes made me feel great.  My body felt good and I smiled the entire time, I even had a nice little kick at the finish.  Maybe racing with a double stroller is my calling....
