After they got past the food questions I was then faced with the diabetes questions. How does my pump work and how do I know how much insulin to take each day. The answers give people two options, they can say "I have no clue what your saying, sorry I asked, better that you have the disease then me" or I get "Wait so your life is like being in math class all day long." The second response is the one I aim to get when I explain carb ratios. Today I got the response I wanted, one person asked how pasta and fruit were different. I was so happy with that question, I went in to great detail and the guys got it.
The final question I got was "How do you go out and do what you do everyday?" For example today I rode ten miles before and after work, walked ten miles at work, and wore a tyvek suit for a couple hours which caused me to be soaked in sweat. I answered with one word, dedication. I'm dedicated to my disease and to living. I want to have people ask me how I do what I do, I want to be that guy people look to and say "If he can do it then I can do it." I want to be that guy that gives hope to anyone living with diabetes that thinks he or she is limited by Diabetes.
