With such a crazy few hours behind me I decided to head to basketball practice a little early. I'm sure this will upset my wife but seeing my favorite athletes was the highlight of my day. As a coach it's not about wins and losses, yes I'd love a state title but to me it's more about how the players remember me. If I see them ten years from now and they ignore me then I didn't do my job. But ten years from now if they come up and say I had an impact on their life, I can’t explain what that would mean to me. Three athletes in particular have already gotten my message. To me they're like brothers. It makes me feel good and that’s why I wanted to coach and why I write down what goes on in my life as a diabetic. I may not be able to help someone face to face but I hope that what I write helps in some way.
After being at the gym for a good three hours and running around for close to two of those three hours I decided to head home and grab a late lunch. As you know I'm OCD with time so eating lunch at 1:30 really had me going nuts. My pump read 104 and I felt good so I gave myself 4.3 units and made some breakfast for lunch. Three eggs sunny side up and two slices of fiber one bread with peanut butter. At the bottom you will see a picture of the peanut butter I use. It's like me, it's not normal. It's Better'n Peanut Butter. It's lower in fat and calories than normal peanut butter and tastes like Jif. Give it a shot you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The rest of my afternoon went very well. Nothing exciting but I did take a little road trip with a good high school friend of mine. We went to Best Buy for some goodies that he needed, again I can’t believe how crazy I am!! After that crazy time we headed over to Mystic where we met my wife and the three of us enjoyed an early dinner. My pump read 102 and I ordered Salmon with broccoli. As I grabbed my pump to punch in my insulin I thought holy crap a meal without carbs?!?! Is that even possible? But then I remembered the amazing bread they have so I put in 3.5 units and grabbed a couple of small pieces. The best part of my night was going to the store and getting the food shopping done for the week. I forgot all of the coupons on the counter!! Nothing like realizing that when you’re down the third aisle and have a half filled cart. So I got the necessities for tomorrow and cursed at myself the whole time I was shopping.
As I finish up writing at the crazy time of 9:07 I just tested and was 78!! I think a little low carb snack is in my very near future. I'll be enjoying some sugar free pudding and the Fiesta Bowl. I also decided to put in a nice picture of the scars from my surgery three years ago which I’ve been meaning to upload.
