I have people that give me a hard time about my dream, about why I shave my legs and enjoy wearing spandex for hours on end while on the bike. The old me would listen to them and change to be the person that those people want me to be. If you live for the acceptance of other people you will never be happy. Make sure that you are happy and you will find the people that love what you love. It isn't easy, each day you must sit and reflect on your day. You have to focus on the good and realize how far you have come but also remember that you have work left to do. Personally I'm amazed with where I'm at as a person, diabetic, husband and father. I'm not the best...yet, I will continue to work and I will achieve my dreams. I know that you have that ability as well, never stop working and keep smiling because if we can't smile what can we do??
People often ask me how I changed my life, "What did you do, what's the secret?" To be honest it did not just happen one morning, I didn't wake up and everything had changed. It was years and years of hard work, it was changing everything in my life, losing friends that I had for years, take responsibility for my life and having dreams. Having dreams was how I changed my life, I dreamed of an A1C at or below 6.0. I have yet to reach that dream and people think that my diabetes life is so great. It is not, I have good days and bad days. I have bigger dreams that involve diabetes, I believe almost everyone that knows me or reads this blog knows what my dream is. I'm not going to come out and say what it is because I don't want to jinx myself.
