What makes the mHealth Grand Tour so amazing? It is an eleven day tour of Europe by bicycle, starting in Brussels and finishing in Geneva. The only rest day is in Paris which is kind of a downer, you get to ride into the city of Paris just like the pros that race the Tour de France. It gets worse, the next day you are spending the entire day in Paris, easily one of the top five cities in the world!!
That all sounds good but this tour is no joke, The Epic is the ultimate challenge. At 1,500km of riding and nearly 22,000m of ascent over 9 days. It is a big challenge but massively rewarding for the people that complete the entire ride. You can also sign up for one or two stages of the tour if your vacation time at work is running low. No matter if you are signed up for the epic or just a stage, the sights, people and memories of the tour will last a lifetime.
Right now you are probably wondering why I'm writing about this tour, I mean so many companies offer cycling trips around Europe and will take you on such historic climbs as Alpe D'Huez. What makes the mHealth Grand Tour different, diabetes is the difference!! The opportunity to help improve the lives of people with diabetes, showing what is possible for people with diabetes and demonstrating how innovative technical solutions can address the challenge of managing diabetes. During the Tour a number of leading global technology companies including Orange, Dexcom and Samsung and some innovative technology start-up companies will implement a unique technical solution to support riders during the tour. The tour has a partnership with IDF Europe the Tour also works with experts in diabetes, exercise physiology, technology companies, healthcare professionals and patients to learn, share, educate, develop and deploy solutions and knowledge to help people manage their diabetes, liberating them to lead active lifestyles.
The mHealth Grand Tour starts on my birthday this year which I believe is no coincidence. I thank everyone that has emailed me or tweeted at me about the mHealth Grand Tour, it is an amazing tour and one that I will try my best to be a part of. I encourage each and every person that is reading this to visit the tour site and signup if you can. Cycling in Europe and helping the lives of so many that live with diabetes, it doesn't get any better!!
