I got rid of the scale in our house because I got down to 156 a year after my surgery, in that year I was depriving myself of "normal" foods, I was basically on a macrobiotic diet. I looked at pro cyclists and saw that they were close to 150 so that is what I wanted to weigh. Since that time I have been eating very healthy and working out like crazy, I put on weight every winter, usually weighing around 180 but get back down to about 165 in the summer because of work and training.
About a week ago Leanne asked if I was ok, I told her that I was fine and have never felt better. To that she said "While you have never looked like this at this time of year, usually you look like this in July" That caught me off guard, my clothes are looking big on me and that is usually a sign that I'm losing a bit of weight. Since that comment I have been eating some more fattier foods, I'm not afraid to grab a slice of pizza now.
I'm worried about the summer though, I walk an average of fifteen miles a day at work in the summer. That's in hot and humid conditions, then you bring in my training. I may run eight miles to work or bike twenty and will be racing in a 5k once a week starting June 10th. It is not even June and I'm already asking myself how I'm going to get 3,000 "good" calories in my body to stay at where I am weight wise.
It is a crazy position to be in. My training and racing is not showing any signs of falling off which is good. I believe that another meeting with my nutritionist is necessary however. I need help finding 3,000 calories, and that number is a bit low I believe. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that I need close to 4,000, that would basically be doubling my calorie intake which is just crazy to think about. Time will tell.
