Saturday night I headed to the hospital in hopes of receiving intravenous rehydration. When I'm sick I become very dehydrated, I figured I was over my sickness and that I was feeling so bad because I was dehydrated. I explained my symptoms to the nurse and was quickly hooked up to an IV. They would take blood just to run some basic tests, I had no problem with that, in fact I was happy that they did. As I sat back with my IV, I was feeling good and was enjoying the college football that was on the tv. After I got my first bag of fluids I asked for some juice, saltines, and for them to test my blood sugar. My blood sugar would be 104 and I couldn't wait to have some apple juice and saltines. Just as I was about to enjoy my "dinner" the doctor came in and said "don't eat that, we just got your blood work back"
Obviously I didn't want to hear "Don't eat that" if he said that something had to be wrong. In true doctor fashion he said "All of your numbers came back normal (pause) except your pancreatic lipase. He said that my pancreatic lipase was at 925 when it should be around 300. In an odd comment the doctor would say "That is high but we don't really concerned until the number goes above 1,000" Excuse me but 925 is kinda close to a 1,000. I would be released from the emergency room after my second bag of fluids. On Sunday I would return to the hospital for an ultrasound, luckily the technician didn't see anything major and I was allowed to return home.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with a doctor that specializes in Gastroenterology. I had more blood work done today and will have a lot of questions answered tomorrow. I have been eating nothing but bananas, toast and rice for three days. It is nice to finally have food again, from noon Thursday until Saturday at 6pm I think I only had a slice of toast and four saltines. Obviously I will know a lot more tomorrow but I'd lie if I didn't say I was a lil worried. For the past month or so I have had some problems when it comes to diarrhea, such as having to stop on runs and squat on a trees. That sounded like a part of trail running but it happened more than just once. I have also lost a good deal of weight over the past month, I threw my scale out years ago when I was getting upset because my weight was going above 160lbs. I'd say I have lost close to 10lbs over the last month.
Blood sugar wise I'm happy with how I have managed everything, I haven't been perfect but I believe I tweaked things when needed and kept my blood sugars respectable over the past week. Below is a chart of my blood sugar average and amount of insulin I have taken per day. Tomorrow I will find out a lot and will go from there. Thank you to everyone that has wished me the best and has been asking how I'm doing. I appreciate the emails and texts, it has helped a lot.
