One camp attendee, a 33yr old man with a dream and a passion will be attending camp from the 12th until the 15th. Yours truly will be in Athens to give a behind the scenes look at what the Team Novo Nordisk Talent ID camp is all about. I'm truly honored to have this opportunity and can't thank the team enough for the invitation. In one week I'll be getting on a plane headed to Atlanta, during the flight I will be doing a lot of reflecting. While at camp I will be thinking about my life when I was a teenager, how I managed my diabetes at that age and how a bike wasn't even a part of my life.
What could have been? It's not healthy to think like that but I will have that thought in my head as I'm attending camp and watching these amazing athletes. Being able to sit down with these athletes and talking to them about life as an athlete with diabetes will be amazing. I will never have the chance to ride my bike at a professional level, I will not race all over the world. Much like these the athletes I will be dreaming with them, it's weird a blog that I started to talk about my day to day life with diabetes has now become a passion. Day in and day out I try my best to put out a post that helps others when it comes to life as an athlete with diabetes. I don't know what the future holds when it comes to this website or writing about my life as an athlete with diabetes.
I might be 33 but I feel like a kid that is heading to camp!! When you love something so much and work so hard to get to a point, that you can't help but enjoy everything that comes with the road to a dream. I can't wait to be with the future of Team Novo Nordisk, these athletes living with diabetes are role models to myself and others. One day they will be the face of diabetes as they are introduced at the Tour de France!! One of them may wear the yellow jersey, the green sprinters jersey, the polka dot king of the mountain jersey, or the white jersey of the best young rider. When that happens they will be on the podium reflecting on the chance that they took to realize their dream. They will go back to where it all started, they will look at teammates and smile because the friendship began at camp in Athens, Georgia when they were teenagers living a dream!!
