Blood sugar wise everything was perfect as I drove to the gym around 930. As I got in my car I saw that I was 136. My plan was working and I felt great as I approached the door to enter the gym. As I entered the gym my pump beeped, I instantly thought oh great here we go again. As I looked down at the pump it let me know that my sensor had run out. It's weird how often I forget that I have to charge the sensor every few days. I unhooked my pump, stretched and got ready for my workout. My workout began with dead lifts; I would have to do four sets of them at 280lbs. After a short break it was off to do three sets of hamstring falls and seated rows. Then the real fun started, it was off to do step ups with 45lb dumbbells in each hand. Checkout the photos below to see how that went. Enjoy the video as well, having a trainer who thats just as crazy as you is a huge plus. After that it was some ab work. Finally it was off to the hall of hell, a 45lb plate push, to mix it up I did the entire hallway which is probably 50ft. It was a great way to finish up, my lungs and legs were burning.
When I arrived home around 11:30 I tested and was 152. I decided to make a grilled chicken sandwich with fiber one wheat bread. Spicy chicken and wheat don’t go all that well together. Along with my sandwich I ate an apple, Greek yogurt and a fiber one bar. I would cover my lunch with 5.5 units.
Before leaving the house to go to my teams basketball game I tested to see how I was, the meter read 140. Perfect way to go in to a game. The game was not much of a game with my team getting the victory. I sat down a lot more during the game then I usually and could feel my blood sugar heading up. I do not suggest this but I gave myself 4 units. I feel that I know my body very well and was not worried about being low later on.
After our game, I returned home to walk the dog and change before meeting my wife and her parents for dinner. I tested before walking the dog and was 222. The 4 units I gave myself were just past its peak so I can only imagine what my sugar was during the game. For dinner I decided to repeat my lunch. The only difference was I got a normal roll and had a few fries. I also started with an amazing Italian chicken noodle soup. I gave myself 5.6 units to cover dinner. The rest of the night I felt great and enjoyed watching the high school girls game.
Returning home around 8:30 I tested and was 88, I smiled and thought aloud that’s how my days should be. But as I'm typing I'm thinking if every day was like today it wouldn't be much fun. Diabetes is a lot like life; you enjoy the good but need to learn from the bads as well, they will teach you a lot more. Nothing left to do but watch some college basketball; I haven't had my fill of basketball today.
