Having started red my new job on Monday morning I was a little nervous because I would begin work at 9am and not at 7am like I have been accustomed too over the past fifteen years. I was in sure if I would be able to have my lunch at 12pm like at my old job, I know that I can wait for my lunch until one with my blood sugar staying in range.
Today I would face my first blood sugar challenge at my new job. While working with the boss noon quickly passed and before we knew it 1pm was approaching. I looked down at my CGM and knew I was about to drop below my set range. I told my boss I would be heading off to grab my juice and suddenly it dawned on him. "That's right you're a diabetic!! Go go grab your juice!!" When I returned we had a nice conversation about my diabetes history and I was told to never be afraid to excuse myself if I need to get my blood sugar back in to range.
Having a nice heart to heart with my new boss put me at ease. With any job I will have challenges but diabetes will never be a challenge and that makes me very happy and excited for the road ahead.
