Going Mudder Crazy

After a couple of laid back days at work it was nice to have a crazy day.  I would be touring the course by foot with my mower and hoping my blood sugar didn't go crazy.  This would be the perfect test before the Tough Mudder on Saturday.  I'm happy to report that I believe I passed the test, other than one dip in to the 60s my blood sugar stayed around 110 for the day.  It's amazing how much confidence helps with diabetes, I went in to todays work with the attitude that everything would be fine.  I felt confident with what I had eaten and the amount of insulin that was going in to my body.  After eight hours of work and walking five miles I felt great.

After work I would head down to the beach for a little swim in the ocean.  Todays weather was cloudy with a light mist and temperatures in the high 40s.  The ocean temperature was at 50, so why would I go for a swim??  I have to be over prepared for everything that I do, the Tough Mudder has a lot of obstacles with very cold water.  What better way to prepare the body by then swimming in a chilly ocean?  This will sound crazy to a lot of people but it wasn't that bad, the worst part was going under.  The cold water hitting my head was an instant brain freeze.  For a second you lose all sense of what is going on, but you quickly bounce back and get this rush of adrenaline.  Post swim my body decided to be mean and my blood sugar would raise to 235.  I guess that's what I get for putting my body in cold water.  Come back tomorrow for a little inside on why I'm doing the Tough Mudder.  I will tell you now that it's not to say I'm some macho man that thinks he's great.
