This evening with a nice pink glow skin due to the sun and the medication that I'm on for lyme I foolishly decided to run the 5k. I new that I would feel like garbage but I needed to run, I needed to exercise and needed to prove to myself that I may be "sick" but that I can still run. This 5k ranked as the probably the second hardest run of my career, the first being the NYC Marathon. I felt good for the first mile which I completed in 7:39, after that my body went downhill and I had to mentally push myself to finish when I reached the two mile marker. I knew this would happen, that is why I needed to run, I wanted that challenge. I finished in a time of 25:12, not bad considering everything. The best part of my night was my blood sugar, I started at 226 and finished at 144. Not perfect but I will take it!!
I will continue to train and have my eyes set on a half marathon in September as my official return to racing. It hurts to miss a whole season of racing but things happen, I did my best to stay healthy and was dealt a bad hand. My eyes are set on this fall, I plan on coming back stronger and better than before I got "sick".
