The real fun started when I arrived home. I would doing my usual Wednesday routine, a 5k down at the beach at 6pm. With a blood sugar of 72 at 4pm I figured I could enjoy a bowl of Cheerios and not have to worry about my blood sugar until after my run. That is exactly what I did, I had no reason to suspect that my blood sugar was low or high, I felt amazing as I did my warmups. I felt amazing running my 5k, my legs felt very strong and I kept a good pace. The 5k is a "fun run" but I'm way to competitive to have fun. I was able to out kick a sixth grader at the finish!! Not one of my finer moments but what are you gonna do, I finished in a time of 22:56 and was very happy. I would socialize with some friends post race but then head home for dinner.
When I tested my blood sugar before dinner my great day went to crap!! I was 312!! 312 really? I just ran and felt great, was I high when I ran?? If I was how did I run so well? Is it another case of post run blood sugar spike?? I don't know the answer, all I could do was take a bunch of insulin and try to enjoy my dinner.
