Around 930 my blood sugar was at 199 and I was all set to go on bike ride. As I put on all my gear I decided to search Youtube for Phil Southerlan hoping I could find a motivational video to give me an extra boost. I succeeded and in doing so officially broke up with Lance Armstrong!! I love Livestrong but I will take Phil Southerland the person over Lance Armstrong everyday of the week. As my ride began I was happy that I left my Garmin at home, I just wanted to ride and enjoy it. I didn't want to worry about my speed or my heart rate and I'm so glad that I did. I just rode and I felt amazing!! My legs felt great and my breathing was very controlled, I felt so good that I decided to find some hills on the way home. I even got an odd look from a motorist as I headed up a very steep secret side street, the street has a grade of about 14% for about 150ft, it is a very steep quick hill. I guess the motorist thought it was a bit odd for a cyclist to be giving 100% to climb two days before Christmas. I'm not normal!!
When I arrived home I felt a bit off, I had been feeling off for the final five miles of my ride. While riding I cruised and pounded some Gatorade and a little bit of my power bar. When I tested I was at 65, I quickly pounded some juice and a granola bar. I would get out of my gear and then have lunch and cover everything with eight units of insulin. I feel great now and my blood sugars have been right around 100 all afternoon. I feel so good that I might go for a ride tomorrow morning!!
