As you may or may not know I have been cleared to resume running and cycling. I'm out of shape and that was very clear as I went for a run on Wednesday with the members of the basketball team I coach. I was able to play it off that I wanted to go at an easy pace to just keep the muscles loose as we headed in to a day off on Friday.
This morning it was back to the pavement and a nice run. I felt better this morning but I'm not even close to where I was before I got sick. My form and body feels good but my breathing and lungs are not where they should be. All of that will come back as I do more and more cardio in the coming weeks.
What I'm really excited about is my new diabetes approach to running. Running is now like a shower!! I get a break from my pump, it caught me off guard when my doctor said to do so but I will see how it works and adjust accordingly. As always please don't do something just because it works for me, everyones body is different and what works for one person may not work for the next. Be sure to contact your doctor before making any changes to your diabetes management while exercising.
I will also be using more gels to help manage my blood sugar while running. My endocrinologist believes some of my problems stomach wise might be from Cliff bars while running. A gel and natural sugars are the plan moving forward, less work for my intestines to break down the gel. Again I don't know what will happen but I like the suggestion. This week will be a week of getting my body back into the workout mode that it was in before being sick. My all out ultra training begins on January 4th, starting slow seems right. I'm feeling good and ready for the next three months of hardcore training!!
