That has stuck with me and has helped me to chase down my dream. Even as I get closer and closer to realizing that dream I want more!! While chasing that goal I learned something very important, I have been getting more satisfaction from seeing others realize their dreams than reaching my own. Lending a helping hand and seeing the excitement and pure joy on their face is all I need. With that I started to think about all of the people that have helped me to get to this point. Everyday when I test my blood sugar I have five seconds to think about everyone that has helped me when it comes to diabetes. The ones that were helping me even when I wasn't taking care of myself, the ones that push me to do more as an athlete living with diabetes. It is five seconds of my day and I'm almost brought to tears.
With that comes a joy of living, if diabetes has taught me one thing in twenty six years it's that you don't know if you'll have tomorrow so you might as well enjoy every minute of the day. You might say that is my secret to managing diabetes. I still chase my dreams like I'm that eight year old boy telling his mother what he wants to be. When it comes to my diabetes I never stop dreaming and trying for perfection. It is that pursuit of blood sugar perfection that will have me being a kid and smiling when I'm in my eighties and hopefully further in life. It is also the cycling kit, running shirt and jacket that I get to wear that gives me that extra push and motivation to be the best that I can be. It is the logo on that clothing that reminds me to chase my dream and to keep fighting no matter what people say or think!!
