Down With the Sickness

A title that refers to a heavy metal song can never be good, for the past forty eight hours I have been feeling off.  (I don't like the word sick, off is when you can still function, sick is when your totally bed ridden..for me anyway.)  All day at work on Tuesday I wasn't myself, I was quiet and not as energetic as usual.  On Wednesday when I woke up with a sore throat I figured it was from the cold weather and dragged through another day outside at work.  When I got home on Wednesday I headed right to bed and hoped that everything would be better in the morning, this morning it was not.  This afternoon on my lunch break I headed to the doctor to see what was wrong.  After a quick swab of the back of my mouth the doctor headed out and would return ten minutes later to inform me I had strep throat.

A night of higher than normal blood sugars and a morning of highs told me that I was off I just didn't know to what extent.  People feel off and bounce back no problem, this diagnosis of Strep Throat has me a tad concerned however.  I was given the same diagnosis back in May of last year, that makes two bouts with Strep in less than a year.  Briefly I thought it could be something else and then I decided to look up streptococcus and diabetes online.  I found this article and many like it saying that people with diabetes are more prone to strep. I know all of that, I would like to know why and if it os normal to be diagnosed twice in one year.

This weekend will be a quiet one with a lot basketball being viewed and very little physical activity.  The athlete in me foolishly asked if I would be able to run in a race this Sunday.  I was told that I could but it probably wouldn't be the best idea.  I'm no where near being a professional athlete and to run this weekend would be foolish.  Running and riding is not my job, a weekend off will not hurt.
