Almost nine months ago I began a new job and was very worried about the diabetes transition and how my blood sugars would adjust to a new job. It took a little bit of time but I would learn how to manage my diabetes at my new job. Once I did I missed the daily blood sugar challenge that I had at my old job, I felt like I was alone and playing with myself!! (That's never fun). Then a new employee started and I saw a blood sugar meter on the office desk that wasn't mine. I felt like a new man.
As always the initial diabetes conversation was awkward and much like a first date with the usual questions, "when were you diagnosed?" and ""Do you like the pump?" Once that was out of the way it got back to a couple of guys working and making the usual dumb jokes that guys make, aka locker room talk.
The best part is that we have a diabetes relationship and are sharing our experiences with one another which does nothing but help both of us. Nothing is better than having a coworker with diabetes!!
