Everything was perfect going into the island trip early Sunday morning. A perfect blood sugar before getting to the beach had me smiling and enjoying the day. Taking insulin before heading into the ocean was another perfect decision, knowing the pump site was weak the insulin takin before swimming would cover me until I got out and changed the pump site. Everything went as planned until hours later when my blood sugar was dangerously out of range because I was not getting insulin into my body because the pump site was not functioning properly.
It would take another few hours to get back in range and be myself again. This incident has me saying goodbye to the pump after I go to the endocrinologist in a few weeks. Faulty pump sites and not being where I need to be is the reason for the change. It will not be easy but having a cgm with me will make the transition a little easier. Will it be perfect? No but it will be better. I'm worried about how it will affect me when it comes to running and cycling but like anything I will learn as time goes on and be better because of the change.
