It has taken a little longer than planned but my top moment for Team Novo Nordisk in 2017 is finally here.  I honestly think moment number one is a given, I mean is there any question on what it could be?  Here it is, I have officially been named a member of Team Novo Nordisk!!  That means my last blog post is tonight and I will start as the door opener at the team office for Team Novo Nordisk January 2nd!!!

All joking aside, moment number one is honestly the biggest moment since the team was formed five short years ago.  The new contract that was announced on September 26th, kept the dream alive.  The dream of a pro cycling team made up of riders living with type one diabetes racing in the Tour de France.  It also keeps the team mission alive, they will continue to inspire, educate, and inspire people affected by diabetes.

Before the contract was announced I can remember having a lengthy conversation with Kate about the team and if they weren't offered a contract.  Selfishly I thought about what it would do to me, how I held on to a dream and that it might be totally gone.  I mean Kate and I have already talked about going to France in July of 2021 to watch the team in the Tour.  My lifelong dream of watching a stage in the French Alps would be gone.  Later that evening I laid in bed and thought about the team some more and it hit me, if the team was not offered a new contract that children living with diabetes would lose the most inspirational team in the world.  Children that have not been born yet would never know what a cycling team made up of diabetic athletes could do or even that it ever existed.

I then thought about my own son and daughter as a tear rolled down my face.  I love sitting with my son and having him ask "Daddy bikes on your phone?"  We then watch a Team Novo Nordisk video and every time he will ask "Daddy that you?" after I laugh and say no he responds with "Daddy those your friends?"  That is when my daughter will cuddle up with us and say "Those are daddies friends, he rode with them"  Oh the mind of children, I rode once and got my butt handed to me but they are my friends and have helped me so much with cycling, running and most importantly diabetes.

I'm just one person, think about the number of people that have been touched by the dream that Team Novo Nordisk has.  I mean if it wasn't for Team Novo Nordisk this blog wouldn't be as popular as it is, it would have a member of the team sending me messages asking when I'll post the next moment in my top five countdown.  Team Novo Nordisk has helped so many people all over the world and will continue to do so thanks to a new contract.  Team Novo Nordisk will continue to grow and will inspire a child living with diabetes that rides a bike for fun.  In 2021 or sooner, a child will be watching the Tour de France and will ask his parents for a bike because he wants to be like the guys on Team Novo Nordisk.

2017 is coming to an end but Team Novo Nordisk has some surprises in store before the year ends.  Be on the lookout for the 2018 Team Novo Nordisk kit, of course I will post about it as soon as they make the official announcement.  I also believe an interview or two is coming with members of the team.  Thank you, Novo Nordisk for believing in this team, they will not let you down and will continue to change the diabetes world!!
