7:25am-Was able to sleep in today, woke up well rested and felt good going in to my breakfast routine. My blood sugar was 125, I had a bowl of Kashi cereal and gave myself 4 units of insulin. Knowing I was going to the gym at 9, I was a little bit worried about the amount of insulin, but over the past week I have found that the Kashi cereal has a lot more carbs than normal cereals. Around 830 as I got ready to leave for the gym my blood sugar was at 220 but starting to fall a little. I set a temporary basal that cut down the amount of insulin going in to my body and from 9-10 put my body thru a pretty tough workout.
At the gym it was mostly a weights day but I did end with some cardio. Began my workout with 3 sets of front squats with 130lbs followed by 3 sets of 5 pull ups. Then it was on to 3 sets of lunges with 20lb weights and seated rows starting at 110lbs and ending at 130lbs. Finished with a little bit of cardio, 45lb plate pushes. Leaving the gym I cancelled my temp basal and had a protein bar and a lot of water. Knowing that I had very little insulin for the past hour I gave myself two units to cover the protein bar and to get some extra insulin in to my body.
From 11-1 I had basketball practice for the freshman team that I coach. I really don't like to sit and watch the kids run so often times I will join them in drills. Did almost two miles of running, drank a Powerade and had a fiber one bar to keep my sugar in line.
My lunch was late but my blood sugar was 90 at 1:20pm, I made my usual turkey and american one fiber one wheat bread had some almonds to go with it and ended with some Greek yogurt for dessert. I took 3.2 units to cover my lunch. Had a nice quiet afternoon and then went to dinner with my parents and wife at a nice local Italian restaurant. Over time I have gotten a lot better at covering pasta. A lot of time it's tough to get the timing down causing my blood sugar to spike a few hours after dinner. Tonight was a good night though, I had some pasta and grilled chicken and took 2.5 units before eating and another 3.0 units one hour later. Around 11 I tested before heading to bed and was 164. I took 1.2 units and called it a night. All in all I was very satisfied with the day and how my sugars were. I wish everyday could be like this but I think it would get old after a while.
