This morning after a good nights rest and waking with a smile on my face getting on the bike was very easy. After changing a flat tire I was ready to get on the bike and enjoy the hour ride ahead of me. With my blood sugar right where it needed to be I was very confident as I clipped in to the pedals. What I didn't expect was the nerves that came when a car would pass me, obviously I'm still a little shaken after the accident. As I got in to my groove I started to feel like the person that I was six years ago when I was at my best. Being at my optimal weight I feel a new lightness on my bike, climbing is easier and my body feels better and stronger as the ride goes on. As my ride went on the old bike rider in me came back. Sprinting down the road and grinding up hills, it all felt great!!
As always the most rewarding part of the bike ride was getting back to my parents house and testing my blood sugar. Being at my best on the bike is nothing without a blood sugar that is range at the end of the ride. Today everything was in range and that made everything perfect. With a full racing schedule starting in the middle of September getting my blood sugars and body where they need to be will be the goal for the next three weeks. It won't be easy but it will be learning from the mistakes and being the best person I can be mentally as well as physically.
