When it comes to diabetes you better believe that I'm competitive, but I'm always competing against myself. My biggest battle is my A1C I'm always working to have my A1C lower than the time before. When it comes to blood sugars I'm working my butt off to have a blood sugar that is in range anytime that I test. I also have the Cal Ripken challenge, a streak of blood sugars that are below 140. The current record is 6, which was set in June of 2015.
My competitive nature has been a lifesaver, it has made me love the challenge that diabetes brings each and everyday. Diabetes is never going to take a day off and never quit, I need to have that same mindset as I compete with diabetes. I'm winning the battle by having a very respectable A1C, being an endurance athlete and keeping my weight where it should be.
Many people around the world are just like me and use their competitive nature to show diabetes who is the boss. This may be odd and frowned upon by some but I want to compete with those people. Each person living with diabetes is different and manages his or her diabetes in their own unique way, I get that. I'd love to compete against someone that has the same lifestyle as myself.
The competition could consist of blood sugar average for the day, week, and or month. Then there would be the A1C battle, whoever has the lower A1C wins a gift card or meal from the other person.
