This year from the outside looking in it looks as if Team Novo Nordisk will make an even bigger splash at the tour this year!! A stage victory against some of the worlds best cyclist wouldn't be shocking but I probably would jump around the house like a seven year old child on Christmas. We all know that Team Novo Nordisk will win a stage at some point when they are racing with the elite cyclists in the world. I just hope that it can happen next week when the team is racing in the country that I live. California may be 3,000 miles away but to have such a high profile cycling race in the United States is great for an amateur cyclist like myself. The United States has some very passionate cyclist but is looked down upon when it comes to cycling. The top races, teams and pros are all from Europe. That is why the Tour of California means so much to me and any passionate cyclist that was born in the USA.
The Tour of California will have Mark Cavendish the Etixx-Quickstep team as well as other big name teams such as the BMC Racing Team, Cannondale-Garmin, and Team Sky. These are the big shots of cycling, to have them racing in California is great. I'm a fan of quite a few of the teams but will be routing for Team Novo Nordisk. I can't wait to see the white jerseys of the team racing against the worlds best.
It makes me proud to ride all over Rhode Island and Connecticut in my Team Novo Nordisk kit because of what they are doing all over the world. They are the best cycling team in the world, they may not have a rider win the Tour of California but none of the other teams racing in the race will be saving lives when people see them race. Each time that a Novo Nordisk jersery is put on by a team member they are changing the lives of people with diabetes. Personally I fought to get my life back because of the team, I'm not the only one. Seeing that jersey and what the team is about saves lives, it can't be put in to words!! I was told by doctor after doctor and by numerous family members that I needed to test more and take better care of myself for so long and I was told that I have so much to live for. That didn't change how I take care of my diabetes, what changed how I take care of myself was seeing Team Novo Nordisk. I needed to see world class athletes with diabetes because sports are my life. A lawyer that has a great A1C and is happy does nothing for me, seeing a team that races all over the world and manages diabetes so well is what changed my life.
I can't wait for the Tour of California because it is the biggest race in the US, people who don't normally watch cycling watch The Tour of California because it is going on where they live. Seeing a Team Novo Nordisk jersey on top of the podium at any stage of The Tour of California will change diabetes not just here in the US but all over the world.
