For the next hour Charlie Kimball sat down and had a normal conversation, my wife and I were able to learn a lot about being a professional athlete with diabetes and he learned a lot about my diabetes history and my wife and I as people. I always wish that pro athletes would step up and do more for diabetes, Charlie is the only one that I know of and I couldn't ask for a better person to be the athletic spokesmen for diabetes. Charlie is a caring genuine man who will go out of his way to talk to a fan. I know that my wife and I were honored that he would spend his time talking to us, it was as if we were talking to one of our good friends.
Ever since that day I have become a huge fan of Charlies and of Indy Car. I will do my best to catch every race that he is in and if I can't get to a television I will be checking the race on my phone. Charlie had a great day today finishing 8th in the Indy 500. I can't wait for the day that Charlie wins his first Indy Car race, I know that he has to work ten times harder than any other racer, he has to control a car going 200mph and at the same time worry about his blood sugar. Charlie is amazing and a role model not only for diabetics but for anyone that is looking for a genuine good guy in sports.
