Not only do I love the look of my medical alert tattoo I love that it puts not only my mind at ease but it is also one less thing Leanne has to worry about when I'm alone on the bike. Since getting the tattoo I heard nothing but jokes, the most famous one being "You have something on your wrist" I'd get a chuckle out of it but it also made me think if getting the tattoo was the right move. Would doctors, nurses and paramedics know that it was truly a medical alert tattoo or think it was just some random guy with a weird tattoo.
All of my worries were put to rest over the past week as I have made the hospital and doctors offices my second home. When i was in the emergency room on Saturday night, each and every nurse and doctor that I talked too loved the tattoo. I heard how a majority of the nurses and doctors wished that more people had them. They would also tell me that to many people don't wear any kind of medical alert jewelry or have a medical alert card in their wallet. That surprised me, I'm not the best role model when it comes to diabetes and self health, I try my best but I'm not perfect. Having medical alert information somewhere on me at all times was something that my parents preached, it just makes sense, not only are you helping yourself but you are helping the people that will care for you if anything ever happened.
A medical alert tattoo is not for everyone, I get that but anyone with any kind of medical condition MUST have some kind of medical alert jewelry or card. It angers me that I waited so long to get my medical alert tattoo, I'm very happy that Leanne gave me the gift of a medical alert tattoo on Valentines day three years ago.
