My worst superstition happens every night before I go to sleep. I will test my blood sugar and if my blood sugar is sub 180 I must eat something!! Why? I’m afraid if I don’t I may not wake up. The odds of that happening are probably one in a million but that fear has been with me since my diagnosis almost thirty years ago. I have amazing diabetes technology and an amazing wife that will wake me if I don’t respond to the alarm from my insulin pump or cgm.
Over time I have gotten a lot better at avoiding this bedtime snack but if my blood sugar is around 110 you better believe I’m grabbing a granola bar. If it is the 150 range a handful of triscuits or a few saltines. I will continue to work on this superstition and learn to trust my insulin pump a little bit more.
