All day I had great blood sugars and was feeling great heading in to our final regular season game. As usual though my blood sugar sky rocketed, I took two units of insulin as the game began but that would provide no help. With just over five minutes left in a very close game my pump beeped, I looked down and saw that I was at 312!!!! When i sat down to put in four units of insulin one of the players asked "Coach are you ok?? You never sit down??" I chuckled and said "Yeah, alls good, lets go get a win" We were able to get the win but my blood sugar would not recover for another hour. Exactly one hour after the game ended my blood sugar was at 70 and dropping.
I was at a very nice pasta supper fundraiser so I was able to get food and bring my blood sugar up quickly. I just wish I could have had a better night diabetes wise. When I first started coaching I never thought about the diabetes effect, now as I look to move up as a coach the diabetes side of coaching is my main concern.
